My Unconventional Vet Med Journey
4 years, 13 vet schools, 14 applications later… (drum roll please…)
I finally know what the heck I was doing. I was learning to get back up and have found so many ways to do it. WOOHOO! And yes, I’ve made it to a vet school in Romania — University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca (USAMV-Cluj).
This page is dedicated to vet students and aspiring vets. Here is where I’ll be vulnerable, honest and open to share my story and give you tips on how I’ve overcame and celebrated. I’ll share behind-the-scenes life in the veterinary field. So that aspiring vet students can have a sneak peak into what’s life possibly like as a vet student. And for vet students, it’s so that you can think, “hey, there’s a kid out there struggling like me! I’m not alone. We’re not lost, just wandering.”
It was definitely not a smooth journey for me. One that involves having to take risks, leaps of faith and rides on the emotional rollercoaster.
Furthermore, the process of becoming a vet is rarely talked about — the struggles, financial difficulties, emotional challenges, motivations, celebrations and more. I personally had to reach out to vets themselves to hear and learn from their stories. And experience them myself.
But also through this unconventional journey that I am able to find myself and truly learn to live life through slow living.
I started out, as a child, dreaming to be in this field mainly because of my love for animals (obviously this should not be the only main reason). However, since I started working as a vet nurse in 2019, my motivations to be a vet have changed so much. If you’re interested, have a read of my blog on 6 reasons why I want to be a veterinarian.
